“WINNERS DO WHAT LOSERS DON’T”
First please let me introduce myself.
My name is Steve and I have lead an active lifestyle since I was a child, taking part in various Sports.
I was in the Army for 24 years and because of my sporting pursuits during this time, I decided it would be productive to learn about the most efficient ways of training after making myself quite ill by overdoing it.
This lead to me pursuing Strength and Conditioning as a career on leaving the forces.
I have studied many different methods of training and now after 14 years in the field as a Pro, I want to give something back to people that struggle to change there life around. One word of caution though. I can only give information that I know works, however, I can't make anyone take that information and physically carry out the instructions. That is all down to them.
So here we go with my first blog on the subject: I hope you find it informative.
Although what I am going to write about here is not just specifically about improving fitness, it is aimed at people that say they want to get fit, lose weight or improve their health, but never really get off their own backside and do anything about it. If your one of those people that want to lose weight, get fit, be healthy, but always find that something stands in your way. Then, I would be so bold as to say,(unless it is physically impossible for you of course) you really don’t want it as much as you reckon you do. Some readers may find what I am writing controversial, well that's ok by me, I just want to get the truth out there.
There are two ways you can look at a situation with regards to your fitness and nutritional needs when you say you want to get fit because you are out of shape.
a) a) You can accept you are where you are and do something about it.
b) Or you can blame something or someone else for never being able to get started, so nothing ever changes. You just keep talking the talk, complaining about being fat or unfit, and it’s easy for other people because they have more time or more money, they don’t have your problems, and it goes on and on, you’re not walking the walk, because you always have an excuse not to.
If you fall into category a) then you will be the sort of person who recognises that you are the only one who can do something about your current situation. You will take ownership of the problem and seek out help in whatever area that is standing in your way and stopping you from getting where you want to go and how you want to be.
If you fall into category b) you will be the person that always has an excuse for not achieving what you say you want to do. There are hundreds of excuses, and sure we have all been guilty of it at sometime or other, but at the end of the day there is only really one person to blame for not doing something and that is yourself. If you can't accept this as fact, then it is probably not worth reading on.
Let’s have a look at a hypothetical situation that is pretty common these days:
For instance, the person who is working many hours to try and make ends meet for their family. But in doing so, is getting worn out, stressed, overweight, out of shape and just going through the motions from day to day. This situation is common place nowadays.
Now looking at the above fictitious person, they know that they have a problem; their health is going down the drain rapidly. This is obviously not ideal and they recognise it, however, they are working all the time, and when they get home its quick fix food, TV, bed, and on it goes. This person is heading for Obesity and health problems and possible heart attack through stress, overwork and exhaustion. They get up one morning and decide they are going to sort this out and get some exercise and start on a healthy diet. The person living at:
Option a) has recognised the problem they have. They are really pushed for time; they are tired after work and probably not eating correctly. So they will come up with a plan
- a) Tired after finishing work.........they will train before work.
- b) No time...........They will make a time management chart (you can find an example of one of these in our free beginner fitness reports on www.ultimateperformancecentre.com) and find some time to do the things they want to do.
- c) They will set some Goals, ....they will need to learn how to do this effectively.(example in the reports mentioned above)
- d) Can’t afford a gym membership.........they will do some research and train from home.( All in our free fitness report for beginners)
- e) They struggle to get regular meals............They don’t really know much about Nutrition so they need help, All available in the free reports and on our web site
By doing the five simple steps above, they have taken ownership of their problem, and are on the way to sorting it out.
The benefits of doing this are many-fold. So here are just a few
- · By making time for their self to train on a frequent basis, they are getting important “Me time” everyone needs it, just for their own piece of mind.
- · They will find that there stress levels may be reduced. This is due to our inbuilt ‘Fight or flight’ mechanism and our ‘Rest and Relax’ mechanism that we have inherited from our ancestors. The way this works is that, exercise induces stress at the time that you are doing it. However once the activity has finished, stress levels can drop dramatically.
- · By doing exercise their energy levels will increase. Giving greater energy to tackle their daily workload
- · Self confidence and bearing is improved
- · Start to burn fat more efficiently and their general health is improved.
Now let’s look at the person who lives their life at option b)
They know they have a health problem and need to get in shape, but will see themselves as blameless for not doing anything about it, it will be seen as being entirely someone or something else’s fault. Life has dealt them a rough deal. The boss is to blame for them having to work all these hours, they just don’t have time to do any training, it’s just too hard, they can’t eat regular healthy meals, no time, can only eat convenience foods, full of additives, no wonder they are getting fat and out of shape and got no energy.
IF YOU LIVE AT OPTION B, YOU CAN DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.
All you have to do, is first, accept that:
You are responsible for your own life and actions. No one else.
Then make a plan.
